What are the aims of this course?

The apprenticeship framework has been developed by creative media industries, for creative media industries, and will present exciting career opportunities for new entrants. The aim of this Advanced Apprenticeship is to develop digitally savvy and work-ready employees who are multi-skilled and can work cross-platform. Most of the apprentice's training takes place on the job but they will also have to complete off-the-job training within college by day release. Creative and digital media apprentices work towards a nationally-recognised competence based qualification and also a knowledge-based qualification.

What are the areas covered by this course?

Areas covered include:
- Television and film (including editing, camera work, animation, programme production, presentation)
- Radio (including writing, production, advertising, interviewing)
- Sound recording (including audio production, soundtrack production, music techniques, music recording)
- Interactive media (including design, digital video production, web animation, web authoring, digital communication)
- Employability skills
- Transferable skills

What qualifications do I need to do this course?

Applicants must have an understanding and appreciation of different technologies, alongside general knowledge and 'soft' skills, including the capacity to work efficiently and in teams. Qualifications which may provide a useful grounding include: - GCSEs in media-related subjects - A or AS Levels in media-related subjects - National/Extended Diplomas in media-related subjects - Creative and Media Diploma - Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Creative Media - Foundation Learning Curriculum which incorporates creative and digital skills development

How is the course assessed?

The Apprenticeship is assessed by a variety of methods: individual and group teaching, e-learning and/or e-assessment, distance learning, coaching, mentoring, feedback and assessment, collaborative/networked learning with peers, guided study, project work, and set briefs.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course?

At the end of the programme apprentices will have achieved:
- Edexcel Level 3 Diploma in Creative and Digital Media
- Edexcel Level 3 Certificate in Creative and Digital Media
- Functional Skills/Key Skills in Application of Number, Communication and ICT
- Employee Rights and Responsibilities
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?

Apprentices will be prepared for progression onto a wide range of degree, HND and foundation degree programmes in areas such as, interactive media, photo imaging, film and TV production, media production, multimedia and website development.

What are the career opportunities?

The course can lead to the following careers: production runner/assistant, post production runner, broadcast assistant, archive assistant, animation assistant, assistant to the camera crew, junior designer, junior researcher, web coordinator, trainee/assistant, photographer, digital assistant, or production secretary.
