What are the aims of this course?

Apprenticeships allow 16+ year olds to start work and earn a wage, while learning new skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers in the industry, so they offer a structured programme that takes apprentices through the skills needed to do a job well. Most of an apprentice's training takes place on the job but they will also have to complete off-the-job training within college by day release or over a number of days in a block. Creative apprentices work towards an EDI Certificate in Creative and Cultural Practice and an EDI National Award in one of the specialist pathways.

What are the areas covered by this course?

The Apprenticeship covers the following:
- Creative and cultural businesses
- Developing creative and cultural ideas
- Understanding the creative and cultural industries
- Working in the creative and cultural sectors

Plus units from one of the following pathways:
- Technical theatre (costume and wardrobe)
- Cultural heritage and venue operations
- Community arts management
- Live events and promotion
- Music business (recording industry)
- Technical theatre (rigging, lighting and sound)

What qualifications do I need to do this course?

Competition for places with employers can be fierce, so applicants will need to show that they are committed, happy to work as part of a team and individually, and able to use their own initiative.

How is the course assessed?

Assessment will be through presentations, business plans and reports.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the course?

At the end of the programme apprentices will have achieved the EDI Level 2 Certificate in Creative and Cultural Practice plus an EDI Level 2 National Award in one of the creative pathways offered. Apprentices will also have the opportunity to complete Functional Skills that will help develop important skills - like communication, team working, presentation, and problem solving.

What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?

On completion of the Creative Apprenticeship at level 2 apprentices can go on to complete the Creative Advanced Apprenticeship.

What are the career opportunities?

Apprentices who have completed their training can go on to work in the following areas, depending on the pathway chosen: music business, technical theatre, live events, live sound, lighting, costume, cultural venue operations and design.
