What's the Work Based Horse Care course about?

This course is designed for those who are already working in a horse care role. There are 3 main pathways to achieving a level 2 diploma and The Manchester College offers two of the pathways. The pathways are:
- Horse care
- Horse care with riding

Learners must enrol on to one of the specified pathways. Learners will be able to select their preferred units from a range of modules in addition to completing the core units.

The core modules are:
- Clean and maintain stables
- Provide feed and water horses
- Carry out routine care
- Monitor the health and well-being of horses
- Restrain horses using specified methods
- Monitoring and maintaining health and safety
- Maintain and develop personal performance
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

Assessment will take place on a continuous basis and will be through practical and verbal assessments. You will also compile a portfolio of evidence which you will build as you progress through the course.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

On successful completion of the course learners can progress on to the EQL Level 3 Diploma in BHS Stage 3 Horse Knowledge and Care. Learners will also be able to work as a groom or assistant groom in any equine establishment.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

You should have successfully completed the EQL Level 1 Diploma in Horse care.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the Work Based Horse Care course?

You will be awarded an EQL Level 2 Diploma in Work Based Horse Care.
