This course is primarily aimed at qualified and practising teachers who would like to understand more about the specific learning difficulty of dyslexia and how to identify different types of dyslexia. However, it may also be useful to student teachers with teaching experience, speech and language therapists, learning support tutors/trainers
or psychologists working in an educational setting.
Units covered include:
- Identifying dyslexia (a theoretical perspective)
- Practical skills for supporting dyslexic students
- Design of a learning programme and planning lessons for dyslexic students
Students will be assessed through
- 2 teaching practices of 13 and seven hours
- 2 reports of 1,500 and 1,000 words
- a diary of teaching activities
- student profiles and evaluations
- schemes of work and lesson plans
The course can lead to the OCR Level 7 Certificate in Assessing and Teaching Learners with Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia).
These qualifications are designed primarily for qualified and practising teachers and other professionals who hold recognised professional qualifications and have a high standard of spoken and written English. Candidates should have unrestricted access to appropriate teaching and assessment practice.
You will be awarded the OCR Certificate in Teaching Learners with Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia) at Level 5 and you will be granted ATS teaching status.
