What's the Safe Access for Everyone (SAFE) (Taxi) course about?

This course has been designed to improve awareness on disability issues for drivers within the hackney carriage trade. It is aimed at new drivers and drivers who are not familiar with the features on a hackney carriage vehicle or the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA), introduced to protect a person with a disability from being discriminated against.

Areas covered on the course include:
- How to give relevant assistance to a person with a disability or impairment
- Correct usage of the swivel seat and step
- Correct loading and securing of a wheelchair using the extension ramp and belts
- The DDA and the key points for taxi drivers
- How discrimination can be avoided
- Barriers faced by taxi drivers and people with disabilities

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

You could go on to complete the Road Passenger Vehicle Driving (Taxi) NVQ Level 2 qualification.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

Applicants should be employed in the industry.
