This course covers the basics of Building Information Modeling using Autodesk Revit Architecture 2012. This well established software has become commonly used within the construction industry and is used to reduce design time and also make changes to designs far more efficient.
It is aimed at professionals wanting to increase their portfolio of software skills, new Revit Architecture users and those wanting to progress from AutoCAD to Revit and Building Information Modeling software.
You will be taken through the building design process using all the basic commands and tools as well as being introduced to presentation and documentation techniques. This course offers both imperial and metric hands-on exercises representing real-world architectural design scenarios.
You will learn how to create your own Building Information Modeling project through the Autodesk Revit software. Using parametric building design and documentation you will be able to edit, change and present building designs at increased levels of consistency and efficiency.
The course is broken down into the following areas:
- What is BIM? (Building Information Modeling)
- The Revit software interface
- Starting a project
- Fundamentals of the building model
- Loading additional building components
- Viewing the building model (2D/3D)
- Working with dimensions and constraints
- Developing and modifying building models
- Detailing and drafting
- Construction documentation
- Presentation (rendering and walkthrough videos of projects)
There is no formal assessment on this course.
The college offers C&G Certificates in Computer Aided Design Parametric Modelling (Using Inventor) and 2D Computer Aided Design.
All learners must have previous experience or knowledge of architectural design, technical drafting or engineering (civil or structural). No previous experience with computer aided design software is required although all learners must be computer literate.
This course does not lead to any formal qualifications.
As the definition of full time and part time can vary from course to course, please check with the tutor as to the exact number of hours study each week this course will entail.
