What's the Preparation for DPSI (Diploma in Public Services Interpreting) course about?

The aim of the course is to prepare candidates for the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting Exam (Local Government option). The exam is taken externally with the Chartered Institute of Linguistics.

The course consists of two components: topics of local government, where students research terminology and create local-term bank, and interpreting/translation techniques and practice.

This course is assessed through observation, discussion and a written assignment.

There will be two final examinations to assess the oral component and the written part.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

On completion of this course students should be ready to sit the DPSI exams with the Institute of Linguistics. On successful completion of the exams students may apply for a degree in interpreting and translation.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

Excellent written and spoken command of English and a foreign language is essential. Previous interpreting experience is recommended. Candidates must complete a written assessment in English and their foreign language before being accepted onto the course.

CBS holders will be exempt from an initial assessment.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the Preparation for DPSI (Diploma in Public Services Interpreting) course?

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded a certificate of attendance.
