Under the Licensing Act of 2003 anyone authorising the retail sale of alcohol has to hold a personal licence. This Personal Licence Holders course is specifically designed to meet the statutory requirements of the Act.
The course covers the following:
- Legal aspects of holding a licence
- The premises licence
- Role and duties of the designated premises supervisor
- Authorised and unauthorised licensable activities
- Rights of entry to licensed premises
- Police powers
- The specific prohibitions for the sale of alcohol
- The protection of children from harm
- Strengths of alcoholic drinks and effects
You will complete a multi-choice exam consisting of 40 questions. You will need to answer at least 28 out of 40 questions correctly to pass the exam.
On completion of this course you will be qualified to become a designated premises supervisor. At The Manchester College there are numerous opportunities for further study, including the BTEC National Diploma in Hospitality Supervision at Level 3, the WSET Intermediate Certificate in Wines Spirits and Other Alcoholic Beverages, the CIEH Food Safety courses and NVQs in Customer Care in the Hospitality Sector.
No formal qualifications are required but you will require some working knowledge of the hospitality sector. It is suitable for staff from pubs, bars, hotels, restaurants, off licences, supermarkets, sports and social clubs, night-clubs, casinos, leisure parks, and entertainment establishments.
You will be awarded a Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders by the British Institute of Innkeepers (BII).
