What's the PCV Driving Instructor course about?

This 15 day course is designed to give PCV drivers the necessary skills to become qualified driving instructors. You will be taught in the classroom, on the road and in the training area. Successful candidates' names can be entered onto the GoSkills register of approved PCV instructors. This course is recognised by the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPT) as meeting the requirement for the delivery of CPC courses for drivers.

The course covers the following:
- The role of the driving instructor
- Personal driving assessment and correction
- Demonstration and commentary driving
- Preparation of lesson plans: `in-cab' and `in-class'
- Correct use of visual aids
- Training practices

Instructors are assessed using observations of various lessons, driving to test standard, written statements or assignments.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

On completion of this course you will be qualified as a PCV driving instructor registered with Go Skills.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

You will need to have held a clean PCV licence for three years and you will need to be employed as a PCV driver in the industry. You must be in a position to train at least two drivers up to PCV driving test standard and present them for a DSA driving test. The evidence gathered from this will then be entered into your portfolio for assessment.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the PCV Driving Instructor course?

You will be awarded a Level 3 NVQ Diploma for Passenger Carrying Vehicle Driving Instructors by EDI and you will have the opportunity to be placed on the Go Skills register of approved PCV driver instructors.
