This course is designed for individuals who hold a management or supervisory position with a responsibility to manage with due regard to the organisation's safety policy and consequent compliance with health and safety legislation. They will undertake such training for their own professional enhancement and also to allow an employer to meet the requirement of Health and Safety Law. This course is not considered sufficient in itself for those who have a full-time responsibility for health and safety, especially in hazardous industries.

The learning objectives are as follows:
- Understand the relevance of health and safety legislation and associated regulations with regard to their role within the company
- Apply principles of health and safety management
- Understand why accidents occur
- Appreciate the importance of communication skills in handling health and safety issues
- Recognise how human behaviour affects attitude towards health and safety in a workplace
- Recognise commonly occurring hazards
You will be assessed via a short examination paper plus a practical workplace project.
The Manchester College offers a wide range of occupational health and safety short courses, in addition to qualifications accredited by industry recognised awarding bodies. Please enquire for details.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
You will be awarded an IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) Certificate.
As the definition of full time and part time can vary from course to course, please check with the tutor as to the exact number of hours study each week this course will entail.
