The Level 4 Certificate is for those for those who have wider quality assurance responsibilities and manage others, develop policies or manage External Quality Assurance (EQA) visits. This is a qualification for Lead Internal Quality Assurers.
For students undertaking this course there is an initial one-day training session that will introduce the principles and processes of good verification practice. You will be allocated a personal development advisor who will discuss your requirements with you and devise a personalised programme to meet those needs. Appointments will be made with your advisor, by mutual agreement, to assist with individual development, and assist in resolving any problems that arise through this process. This is then supported by telephone contact or email with the advisor, who will also contact you at appropriate intervals to confirm your progress. You will receive tutor support for 18 months from the date of induction.
Those new to quality assurance can take the knowledge unit (unit 1) and gain an understanding of quality assurance principles and practices before they begin a role. When they are ready to practise they can undertake additional units.
Those who need to know about quality assurance, but never intend to practice, for example managers, are able to learn about essential principles and practices by achieving the knowledge unit (unit 1) only.
Those who are in a position to carry out real quality assurance can undertake the knowledge unit (unit 1) and applied units (units 2 and 3) at the same time and use evidence from unit 1 to support the evidence gathered to meet the requirements of units 2 and 3.
Units covered include:
- Unit 1 Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment
- Unit 2 Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment
- Unit 3 Plan, Allocate and Monitor Work in Own Area of Responsibility
You will be required to generate a portfolio of evidence that acts as an assessment vehicle through which you will demonstrate competence.
On completion of the course, and with further experience, you could go on to complete the Edexcel Diploma in the Management of Assessment at Level 7.
You must be aged 19 or over, and have a level 3 assessor qualification, plus relevant work-related experience in the occupational area in which you plan to quality assure. You must be in a position where you can generate evidence to meet the requirements of the unit. This involves working with two assessors who are each assessing two learners who are working towards the achievement of a vocational qualification. You must have the support of a qualified internal verifier for the qualification you are verifying.
On successful completion of this course you will receive the Edexcel Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice.
