What's the Intermediate Food Hygiene course about?

The Intermediate Food Hygiene course is aimed at managers and supervisors in medium and large manufacturing or catering businesses. It is a nationally recognised qualification which is fully accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

The course consists of practical sessions, with selected subjects taught in a classroom environment. You will cover the following units:
- Legislation
- Supervisory management
- Temperature control (chilling, cooking)
- Cleaning
- Contamination control
- Applying and monitoring good hygiene practices
- Implementing good food safety procedures
- Contributing to the safety training of others

You will be assessed via an externally set multiple-choice question paper. This exam may be conducted orally by prior arrangement.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

When you have successfully completed this course at The Manchester College there are a number of opportunities for further study including progression to the CIEH Award in Managing Food Safety in Catering at level 4 (Advanced Food Hygiene).

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

You will need to already hold the CIEH Foundation Food Hygiene Certificate or Award in Food Safety in Catering and be working in food premises.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the Intermediate Food Hygiene course?

You will be awarded a CIEH Award in Supervising Food Safety in Catering at Level 3.
