What's the Gateway: Customer Service course about?

This course is for students who do not have any qualifications and are interested in working within the field of customer service. This course provides an entry route back into studying and is designed to ensure learners gain a range of customer service skills so that they will have a strong foundation for further learning and employment.

The course covers the following areas:
- Planning for progression
- Working in business and administration
- Effective skills, qualities and attitudes for learning and work
- Building working relationships with customers
- Welcoming visitors
- Working with other people in a business environment
- Communication in a business environment
- Health and safety in places of work
- Functional English
- Functional ICT

Throughout the course you will build a portfolio of the work you have completed, for assessment purposes.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

On successful completion of this course you will have the opportunity to progress on to the Level 1 Certificate in Customer Service Skills or the Level 2 Apprenticeship in Customer Service. Alternatively you can go into employment in a customer focused environment, such as working in a call centre, reception work, retail or customer care.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, just an interest in the customer service environment.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the Gateway: Customer Service course?

You will be awarded a City & Guilds Level 1 Award in Employability and Personal Development, an ABC Level 1 Award in Practical Office Skills, and City & Guilds Level 1 Functional English and Functional ICT skills.
