This course provides an introduction to key areas of media study, with a focus on developing practical skills at foundation level. For mature students without qualifications, this course provides an entry route back into studying and introduces radio production skills whilst developing employability skills, time management and teamwork.
The course is very practical and involves students working together to develop radio content. Students will also be introduced to both the technical and performance attributes of radio production, including the use of portable recording equipment, microphone techniques, operating a studio and digital editing.
The course covers the following:
- Use of portable recording equipment
- Microphone techniques
- Operating a studio
- Digital editing
Throughout the course you will complete written and practical assignments which will form part of the assessment, some areas of the course may include online tests. Additional help is available if there are any areas of the course that cause you difficulty.
On successful completion of this course you may progress on to the BTEC Level 1 or BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Creative Media Production (Radio) or other related disciplines.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course but in your interview you need to show that you have a strong interest in the media. If necessary, you need to be willing to improve your academic skills so that you can produce adequate written work.
You will be awarded a BTEC Level 1 Award in Creative Media Production and an ABC Award in Personal and Social Development and a Functional Skills qualification.
