This unit is suitable for web programmers, as it contains a lot of technical details necessary to create dynamic database-driven web sites. It covers the most widespread bundle of the Open Source Software including Apache, PHP, and MySQL server. It also includes some material on SSI, JavaScript, and HTML. The unit covers the technical details about web servers and networks that are necessary for a solid and comprehensive understanding of web technologies and web programming in general.
Areas covered include:
- Installing, configuring and maintaining Apache web server
- Connecting PHP and MySQL to Apache
- Creating web pages that retrieve and update the information in the database using PHP scripts
- Creating web sites with dynamic database-driven content
- Domain Name System, Apache configuration file, advanced features of Apache, virtual servers, SSI technology
Students will be expected to produce a functioning dynamic database driven web site. Students will gain a pass, merit, or distinction.
On completion of this course you may progress onto further studies in Java or C++. It may also allow entry onto a related HNC or foundation degree.
Applicants should have excellent computer skills. Knowledge of HTML and SQL would be strongly desirable.
You will be awarded a college certificate.
