Fees and finance - adults

The following information is for the current academic year. Funding for the 2012/13 academic year will be available soon.

This is information about ‘adult’ (19+) courses at The Manchester College. For fees information for university and degree level courses, please see our university and degree level fees section.

How much will I need to pay?

Fees vary depending on the type of course. Where possible, we state the fees for a course on the relevant course leaflet. You can find course leaflets using our course finder.

Can I get any help with the costs of studying?

There are several sources of financial support that may be available to you. You can contact the guidance and welfare service for in-depth advice on the options open to you.

Receiving benefits

You may not have to pay tuition fees on certain courses if you receive one of the following:

  • Job Seekers’ Allowance (JSA)
  • Income Support
  • Housing Benefit
  • Council Tax Benefit (single occupancy doesn't apply)
  • financial support for asylum seekers who have been in the UK for six months or more

You will need to bring proof of your benefits to enrolment.

Level 2 and 3 courses

You may not have to pay tuition fees if:

  • you are 19 and over, enrolling on a level 2 course and do not already have a full level 2 qualification or higher
  • you are up to the age of 25, enrolling on a level 3 course and do not already have a full level 3 qualification or higher
  • you are over 25, enrolling on a level 3 course and do not already have a full level 2 qualification or higher

You will still need to pay exam fees and registration fees. Please contact the guidance and welfare service for advice on help with study costs.

Basic skills courses

You may not have to pay tuition fees for basic skills courses.

Government policy can change and this can result in changes to funding and eligibility. Please contact the guidance and welfare service if you would like up to the minute advice on the funding options open to you.

Can I pay in instalments?

Are your total course costs are £301 or more (including tuition fees and any exam or material costs)? You may be able to pay in instalments.

We can let you know what instalment options are open to you when you come to enrol. If you choose to pay in instalments we’ll ask for:

  • a deposit of 33% of your total course costs at enrolment (or 20% of total tuition fees if you’re taking a two year course)
  • subsequent instalments by monthly direct debit – please bring your bank details with you to enrolment
