This course is designed for students and employees who wish to familiarise themselves with the language and vocabulary used in the tourism and hospitality industry. It is also suitable as preparation for entrance to subject-related courses.
Students will study a core English course with modules made up of the four main language skills:
- Listening
- Speaking
- Reading
- Writing
- Skills for further studies or employment
The course will feature classroom-based teaching with an emphasis on subject-related terminology. There are also opportunities to undertake Computer Assisted Language Learning classes.
Students will undergo regular assessment in the form of class work, assignments and progress tests.
Successful students could progress either academically or vocationally onto college courses at an appropriate level. Improved language skills will enhance employment prospects.
There are no formal qualifications required. Entry to the course is determined by an initial assessment of language skills.
Successful students will be prepared for appropriate exams with one or more of the following awarding bodies: City & Guilds, Edexcel, Trinity and Cambridge.
