What's the Designing and Making Furniture course about?

This course provides students with the skills necessary to design and make a basic piece of furniture. All materials for samples will be supplied but students will have to purchase materials for their own individual projects.

Core skills taught include:
- Training in hand skills (basic joints)
- Use of power tools and machinery
- Cabinet making
- Veneering
- Turning
- Polishing and materials technology

There is no formal assessment but feedback is given throughout the course to support learning.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

The course can lead to work in the creative industries or self-employment. A further basic module is available leading to higher courses.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

No formal qualifications are required but an aptitude towards practical subjects would be an advantage.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the Designing and Making Furniture course?

This course does not lead to a formal qualification but the work produced but the experience gained can be used to support applications for accredited courses.
