Students are introduced to secure enterprise-class network services
for teleworkers and branch sites. Students will learn how to secure and expand the reach of an enterprise network with a focus on VPN configuration and securing network access.
Topics include:
- Teleworker configuration and access
- Frame-mode MPLS
- Site-to-site IPSEC VPN
- Cisco EZVPN
- Strategies used to mitigate network attacks
- Cisco device hardening
- IOS firewall features
On completion of further units students may progress to Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) status. In addition there are progression routes into NVQ level 4 courses and graduate apprenticeships. Career opportunities exist in the areas of systems administration and management in small to medium sized IT infrastructures. There are also possibilities of moving on to one of our foundation degrees in computer network management, network security or system support.
CCNA is required and experience of network administration and management is preferred. Students must have prior experience of configuring Cisco routers. It would be preferable to have completed Semester 5 of CCNP.
This course does not lead to a recognised vocational qualification.
