What's the Carpentry and Joinery course about?

This course offers an introduction to carpentry and joinery to enable the candidate to build up their practical skills and basic knowledge of this building trade. The course features a combination of practical work (75%) in the specialist workshop area with theory and IT (25%) in the classroom.

The following areas are covered on the course:
- The basic use of tools
- Production of various basic models
- Working with others
- Manual handling
- Use of portable power tools

Assessment will be continuous via assignments and practical tests throughout the course.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

Completion of the course could offer a progression on to an apprenticeship or onto a Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery. It could also lead to employment in the construction industry.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

There are no formal entry requirements, but students will need to demonstrate that they have the ability and commitment to complete the course.

Students will be awarded a Construction Skills Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery at Level 1.
