What's the Brickwork course about?

This course is designed for people who are currently employed within the bricklaying area of the construction industry. It is a broad based course covering the basic knowledge and skills relating to bricklaying.

This course is designed to be part of a package of training for people employed as bricklayers.

Mandatory units studied include:
- Conforming to general safety
- Conforming to efficient working practices
- Moving and handling resources
- Erecting masonry structures
- Setting out masonry structures

Optional units include:
- Erecting masonry cladding
- Laying domestic drainage
- Erecting thin joint masonry structures
- Placing and finishing non-specialist concrete
- Repairing and maintaining masonry structures

Students will be assessed by short practical and related knowledge tests for each unit of the course and will be required to submit evidence of the type and range of work they do from the workplace for assessment.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

Successful students can progress towards technician and supervisory jobs in the building industry or go on to study Brickwork at Level 3.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

This course is a work-oriented qualification and is suitable for those who are employed in a related role; a minimum of three years' relevant experience is required.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the Brickwork course?

You will be awarded an NVQ Diploma at Level 2 in Brickwork by City & Guilds.
