This qualification will teach the learner the skills to apply the basic principles of coaching and to improve the rider's horsemanship skills.
The course is made up of the following units:
- Produce lesson plans for the eleven standard lesson topics listed in the syllabus
- Apply the basic principles of teaching and coaching e.g. manner, voice, control etc.
- Learn to be able to improve pupil's positions and horsemanship using a progressive plan.
- Class lessons including poles/jumps, lunge or lead-rein.
- Health and safety procedures involved in organising a lesson or hack in the open or on the roads.
- Evaluation of ones own performance and show the ability to progress their pupils.
The qualification is assessed via written and practical assessments.
On successful completion of this course the learner will have the opportunity to gain the Level 2 (UKCC Endorsed) Certificate in Coaching by completing a portfolio of evidence. Learners who have already completed their portfolio will be able to progress on to the BHS Intermediate Teaching Test.
Applicants must:
- Have successfully completed the Horse Care and Riding Stage 2 (or a recognised qualification, please contact The Manchester College for further details on the qualifications that are accepted)
- Be a minimum age of 18 years
- A Gold Member of the Society
EQL Level 3 Certificate in BHS Preliminary Teaching of Horse Riding.
As the definition of full time and part time can vary from course to course, please check with the tutor as to the exact number of hours study each week this course will entail.
