This course covers all aspects of basic horse care and health.
You will study the following topics:
- Recognition, treatment and care of common injuries and ailments
- Improving your horses fitness and care of horse trekking
- Preparing your horse for competitive events
- Clipping trimming and plaiting
- Transportation of the horse
- Knowledge of horse clothing and bandaging
- Stable construction and layout of stable yard
- Costs of keeping a horse
- Recognition of good and bad forage
- Grasses and feeding horses
The course is assessed through a written examination.
When you have successfully completed this course you can go onto study the British Horse Society Level One Diploma in Work Based Horse Care which is a full time course.
Students should have completed the British Horse Society Horse Owners Certificate Level 2.
You will be awarded a Horse Owners Certificate Level 3 from the British Horse Society.
As the definition of full time and part time can vary from course to course, please check with the tutor as to the exact number of hours study each week this course will entail.
