What's the Beauty Therapy Techniques course about?

This vocational course offers advanced training in beauty therapy for those who wish to pursue a career in this exciting and ever changing industry. At this level, you will build on your existing knowledge and skills to develop an understanding of the latest technologies and techniques that the industry is employing to achieve the best results. It is a hands on practical course and training takes place in a salon environment using the college's own commercial facilities.

The course covers the following:
- Client care and communication in beauty
- Working with colleagues in related industries
- Promoting and selling products and services
- Body massage
- Body electrotherapy
- Facial electrotherapy
- Epilation
- Microdermabrasion

The course is assessed through assignments and written exams. Students are required to build a portfolio of their work for assessment.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

As a beauty therapist you could find yourself working in a salon, a health farm or even on a film set. It could also help to prepare you for salon management responsibilities, self-employment, or training others in a further education college.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

Applicants must have a level 2 qualification in beauty therapy or salon experience. You must be operating at a literacy level 2 or above and be an excellent communicator with people from all backgrounds and age groups. You should be able to use your hands and your personality should be vibrant and interesting.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the Beauty Therapy Techniques course?

You will be awarded a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy by City & Guilds.
