What's the ATA Senior MET Technician course about?

Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) is a national voluntary scheme which tests the current competence of individuals working in the retail motor industry.

Nine practical assessments cover:
- Remove and replace mechanical, trim and electrical components
- Carry out a cosmetic panel alignment
- Remove and refit a radiator and cooling system test
- Remove and refit SRS component
- Mechanical component removal and replacements (structural)
- Diagnose electrical faults
- Carry out four wheel geometry check and alignment
- Refrigerant handling
- Refrigerant cylinder handling

To become an ATA Senior MET Technician, you must pass nine practical assessments and an on-line knowledge test comprising 30 questions which must be completed in 60 minutes.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

To ensure that you have kept up-to-date with new technologies, you will have to be re-assessed every five years to maintain your accreditation.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

Before you can take an assessment you must be able to prove your experience of working as a senior MET technician for at least five years, or if you already have a recognised level 3 qualification, you will need to show a year's work experience.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the ATA Senior MET Technician course?

Once you have achieved your accreditation, your details will be entered on the ATA register of accredited technicians.
