What's the ATA Light Vehicle Diagnostic Technician course about?

Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) is a national voluntary scheme which tests the current competence of individuals working in the retail motor industry. By completing this course you will be exempt from having to take the NTTA assessment as the ATA qualification is now acceptable under the requirements of VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency) and the Ministry of Transport for MOT testing.

The course covers the following:
- Braking systems
- Engine electrical systems
- Engine mechanical systems
- Vehicle safety inspections

Plus 2 from the following:
- Transmissions systems
- Vehicle electrical systems
- Wheel alignment and steering

To become an ATA Light Vehicle Diagnostic Technician, you must pass six practical assessments and an on-line knowledge test comprising 30 questions which must be completed in 45 minutes.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

Develop personal and professional skills; the ATA qualification enables you to prove current competence.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

Before you can take an assessment you must be able to prove your experience of working as a diagnostic technician for at least three years, or if you already have a recognised level 3 qualification, you will need to show a year's work experience.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the ATA Light Vehicle Diagnostic Technician course?

Once you have achieved your accreditation, your details will be entered on the ATA register of accredited technicians.
