What's the ADR (Carriage of Dangerous Goods) course about?

This is an essential course for drivers who transport dangerous goods as it covers the requirements of the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) leading to the ADR Training Certificate. Due to the nature of dangerous goods, such as corrosives and flammables, it is a mandatory legal requirement for employees involved in the carriage of dangerous goods by road to have received this type of training. CPC registration is optional.

Topics covered include:
- Core: why and how? Development, safety and responsibility of the driver
- Great danger, medium danger, minor danger
- Class 1 explosives
- Class 2 gas
- Class 3 flammable liquid
- Class 4 flammable solid/spontaneously combustible/dangerous when wet
- Class 5 oxidising agent/organic peroxide
- Class 6 toxic/infectious substance
- Class 7 radioactive material
- Class 8 corrosives
- Class 9 miscellaneous: polymer beads, medical waste, life saving appliances, batteries, micro-organisms, PCBs, environmental hazardous substances (asbestos), temperature products, etc.

To gain the ADR qualification, individuals must pass a range of examinations to cover all classes of dangerous goods and the movement of substances in packages or tanker.

The college offers a range of one-day and half day driver CPC courses.

This course is aimed at qualified drivers who are involved in the carriage of dangerous goods by road.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the ADR (Carriage of Dangerous Goods) course?

Drivers will receive an ADR qualification awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).

Please note: there is an additional examination fee of £96.25 for this course, plus a registration fee of £26.25, taking to total cost of the course up to £422.50.
