Healthy College

The Manchester College was the first college in England to be recognised as a ‘Healthy College’. We received this recognition in November 2010 and have kept up the good work ever since.

We believe learners are entitled to as much support as the college and its partners can provide, to help them:

  • make healthier choices
  • improve their general wellbeing.

Manchester and parts of the region face unacceptably high levels of ill health, compared with the national average. The college is working with learners to change these statistics over time.

We promote many activities to promote health and wellbeing, including:

  • multi-site 'Fit 4 Fun' events
  • courses related to sports and health
  • clinical services on site
  • group work on emotional intelligence, kicking smoking and cutting down on alcohol.

Staff are included in the Healthy College initiative. We were the first organisation in the region to achieve healthy college standards from Investors in People for our ‘whole college’ approach.
