The Manchester College was the first in England to be awarded recognition as a ‘Healthy College’ in November 2010.
This means that we believe learners are entitled to as much support as the college and its partners can provide to help them make healthier choices and improve their general well-being.
Manchester and parts of the region face unacceptably high levels of ill-health compared with the national average and the college is working with learners to change these statistics over time.
Activity to promote health and well-being takes many forms; multi-site 'Fit 4 Fun' events, courses related to sports and health, clinical services on-site, group work on emotional intelligence, kicking smoking and reducing alcohol intake and many others.
Staff are also included in the Healthy College initiative and the college was the first organisation in the region to achieve healthy college standards from Investors in People for its whole college approach.
